Mars throws his legendary Spear with deadly precision, damaging each enemy unit it strikes. The first enemy hero it hits is skewered on the spear, pushing it back. If a skewered hero hits a tree, building, or cliff, they will be impaled to it and stunned.


Spear of Mars can hit invisible units and reveals them if they are stunned.

Spear of Mars will only pin a unit to cliffs onto elevated areas, otherwise it will push them off onto lower ground.

Mars wields his massive shield to block a portion of each physical attack when hit from the front or sides.

Can be toggled, granting phased movement, removing Mars's ability to attack, and locking the direction he is facing. When active, reduces movement speed and re-directs 70% of the attack projectiles aimed at allies towards himself.


Redirect only works if the projectile targets are in a cone behind Mars or within 100 range of him.

Break disables the front and side damage reduction.

Strategy

Use Gods Rebuke to secure ranged creep last hits and harass the opponents at the same time.

You often want to set up a Spear of Mars by God's Rebuking first.

Arena of Blood destroys trees in huge AoE which can be useful against certain heroes.

Dont rush spearing an enemy during Arena of Blood. It's often times better to rebuke and spear with delay.

You can protect your allies from ranged attacks by placing Arena of Blood or using Bulwark.

Don't over-rotate. Focus on getting {blink-dagger} or {euls-scepter-of-divinity} timely.

Make use of the {blink-dagger} immediately before opponents are able to scout it.

Pick up {aghanims-shard} after {blink-dagger} and {black-king-bar} to have even more damage and control with Spear of Mars.

Attack modifying and proc items work with God's Rebuke. You can pick up {satanic} in the late game, for example, to lifesteal back up with the spell.

If you use {blink-dagger} to jump directly on top of an enemy, you can cast Spear of Mars and then quickly drop Arena of Blood while the spear is mid-air, pinning the target to the arena wall. This combo requires practice but is very effective for instantly disabling elusive heroes.

Counter Strategy

Avoid playing close to trees against Spear of Mars. Cut some with {quelling-blade} and {tango}.

Mars takes reduced damage from front and sides once he levels up Bulwark. Hit him from the back if possible.

No range attacks can hit inside or outside of the Arena of Blood.

Arena of Blood destroys all the trees around it.

Be aware of Mars's {blink-dagger} timing. Look to cancel it in the fights.

Avoid fighting in choke spots and clumping up against {blink-dagger} into Arena of Blood combo.

{black-king-bar} allows you to move in and out of Arena of Blood.

Break effects remove Bulwark and Mars becomes significantly weaker.

If Mars has the Blood Sport facet, you can place {observer-ward} inside the Arena to gain vision of your teammates and potentially help save them.
