    Strategy

Rush Helm of Iron Will to solve your health sustain issues.

You can scout enemy whereabouts with Wolves before the 0 minute runes and check for the mid lane ward.

Focus on securing last hits and denying as you have extra damage from the Wolves and Feral Impulse.

Avoid feeding summons to opponents. Deny them or send them away, perhaps to block a camp or control a rune.

Lycan's laning power spike is Helm of Dominator and level 6. Try to get a kill or force the enemy out of the lane and you can take the tower fast.

Delay death of the 5 minute catapult wave to meet Helm of the Dominator and level 6 power spike.

Take control of a neutral creep with a stun or root with the Helm of the Dominator so the opponents cant teleport out.

When dominated creep is about to die, you can overtake another one and deny gold and experience to opponents.

When not much is happening, push out the sidelines with summons. Black Dragon is particularly good for that.

Lycan is great at killing Roshan due to summons, Howl and auras. Bring him down by the 20 minute mark.

Consider using wolves to scout in mid to late game. You can deny runes as well.

Aghanim's Scepter's Wolf Bite is a huge buff for one of your right-clicking cores.

In tough late game scenarios resort to ratting, Aghanim's Shard will keep your lanes pushed in and make it easier to rat.

Use your burst damage to make maximum use of item spikes by looking for kills and objectives on the map.

Look to isolate and kill enemy supports quickly in fights as they will find it hard to kite you without items.

    Counter Strategy

Lycan is a low armor hero. Pressure him with your right-clicks.

Try to kill the wolves, especially when they are on low levels.

Be aware of Lycan's level 6 and Helm of Dominator timing.

Lycan and his summons do a lot of damage to buildings. Organize defense quickly.

Lycan is a snowbally hero and falls off. Look to extend the game. Don't be greedy with items.

Crimson Guard and armor items are great against the physical damage output of Lycan and his units.

Lycan is great at split-pushing and ratting. Consider getting Boots of Travel on a core.

Lycan is able to kill Roshan early on. Ward and check Roshpit.

    Lore

Banehallow was noble-born to the house of Ambry, the greatest of the landed castes in the old kingdom of Slom. Before the Fall, as the King's wants grew strange, and his court grew crowded with sorcerers and charlatans, the house of Ambry was the first to rise against the avarice of the throne. No longer willing to pay homage and fealty, they instead sent six-thousand swords into the capital, where they were wiped out in the Massacre of the Apostates. And then came the teeth behind the old truth: When you strike a king's neck, you had better take his head. Enraged by the betrayal, the king exterminated the vast Ambry bloodline, sparing only the lord of the house and his youngest son, Banehallow. Before all the royal court, with the disgraced lord chained to the ornate marble floor, the King bade his magicians transform the boy into a wolf so that he might tear out his own father's throat. "Do this," the king said, "so that Lord Ambry will understand the bite of betrayal." Powerful magic was invoked, and the child was transformed. But though his body was changed, his spirit remained intact, and instead of biting the exposed neck of his father, he attacked his handlers, tearing them to pieces. A dozen of the King's knights perished under the wolf's teeth before they managed to drive it off into the night. Lord Ambry laughed from his chains even as the King ran him through with a sword. Now the heir to the lost house of Ambry, Banehallow wanders the trail as the Lycan, part warrior, part wolf, in search of justice for all that he lost.
