Strategy
Use Anchor Smash to secure last hits and damage the opponents at the same time.
The tougher the lane, the more points in Kraken Shell are needed.
Tidehunter is resilient against right clicks due to Kraken Shell. Typically you need a magic resistance item such as
Mage Slayer,
Pipe of Insight, or
Black King Bar.
Once you have
Blink Dagger, make use of it before opponents are able to see it in your inventory.
Before initiating, make sure that your follow-up damage dealers are close enough and in position.
Tidehunter can farm stacked camps with ease thanks to Anchor Smash and Kraken Shell, taking minimal damage in the process. If you're having a tough laning stage, ask your teammates to stack ancient camps for you — it's a great way to recover and accelerate your item progression.
Kraken Shell can be activated to increase its damage block at the cost of your movement speed. Use it when tanking damage when you cannot escape.
Pick up
Aghanim's Shard after blink to instantly leash an opponent with Dead in the Water after Blinking close to them without relying on Ravage for all your lockdown.
If your team is struggling to breach highground and take buildings, consider buying a damage item like
Daedalus with the level 25 Anchor Smash talent and use your survivability to hit buildings yourself.
Counter Strategy
Tidehunter uses Anchor Smash frequently.
Magic Stick and
Magic Wand will be charged up.
Avoid being hit by Anchor Smash as you'll have decreased damage for last hitting or to fight back.
Only use dispellable spells or items on Tidehunter at the start of a fight or after Blubber has triggered.
Tidehunter's Ravage has a long cooldown. Look to fight when it is down.
Be aware of Tidehunter's
Blink Dagger timing. Look to cancel it in the fights.
Black King Bar will make you immune to Tidehunter's Ravage.
Break effects are great at removing Blubber and Kraken Shell which makes Tidehunter much weaker.
