A core item that lets you avoid most disables on the enemy team to survive during Duel. Improves your right click damage and tankiness through HP pool and magic resistance.
A core upgrade that gives you more damage off Duel wins. Also increases Overwhelming Odds radius when Duelling.
A core item that increases the duration of Duel to lock down an enemy hero for longer and kill them. You should have a decent amount of Duel damage accumulated first before purchasing this item as it reduces the damage from your teammates during Duel.
With weak armor and attack speed, Legion Commander really benefits from this defensive and team-oriented item. The reduction in enemies armor as well as bolstering your own really helps in the later stages of the game. Great item to have against towers and Roshan.

Counterspell offer no protection against Duel at all.
Duel locks down Anti-Mage for a long duration, preventing him from escaping with Blink. One successful Duel initiation is usually enough for Legion Commander's team to kill Anti-Mage.
When dueled, Bristleback will have to face Legion head on, not allowing his passive Bristleback to come into effect.
Overwhelming Odds is great at killing many stacked up spiderlings, thus giving Legion Commander a large buff.
