Astral Imprisonment is one of the best setups for Sacred Arrow as the arrow can be timed to fly over the Astral Imprisonment as it ends, instantly stunning any target that does not have debuff immunity. Solar Flare gives OD Attack Speed, allowing him to get more Arcane Orb hits of.
Bloodlust greatly increases Outworld Destroyer's damage output and allows him to build charges more quickly.
Ignite and Fireblast can pin down an enemy for Outworld Destroyer to attack.
Shackles and Hex pin down an enemy for a very long time which can lead to easy kills.
Magnus’ Empower boosts Outworld Devourer's farming, allowing him to reach core items faster. Reverse Polarity groups enemies, giving Outworld Devourer a perfect Sanity’s Eclipse setup. Together, they scale late-game and chain-teamfight with huge burst potential.
Kinetic Field and Static Storm trap enemies in Astral Imprisonment setups, creating synergy with Sanity’s Eclipse. Disruptor controls the battlefield, forcing enemies into Outworld Devourer’s range. Both are strong in skirmishes and excellent at punishing overextensions.
Outworld Devourer plays well behind tanky initiators, and Centaur Warrunner excels at starting fights and soaking damage. Stampede lets Outworld Devourer reposition or chase after Astral Imprisonment setups. Enemies focusing Centaur Warrunner gives Outworld Devourer space to build up Arcane Orb damage safely.
Soulbind + Astral Imprisonment combo can lock down two heroes simultaneously.
Ink Swell + Outworld Devourer’s mobility allows aggressive initiations, and Soulbind into Sanity’s Eclipse is deadly.
Clockwerk traps enemies in Power Cogs, making Astral Imprisonment follow-up easy.
He zones out the backline and gives Outworld Devourer space and vision to free cast.
Hookshot initiation followed by Astral Imprisonment or Sanity’s Eclipse makes fights one-sided.
Disruption adds another save, overlapping well with Astral Imprisonment for double-layered defense. Soul Catcher amplifies Sanity’s Eclipse, allowing Outworld Devourer to burst targets faster. In lane or fights, they control the pace and tempo with defensive and offensive tools.
Living Armor helps Outworld Devourer survive early pressure, and Overgrowth locks enemies for Sanity’s Eclipse. Treant Protector’s vision lets Outworld Devourer position safely and control high ground fights. The two complement each other in defense-heavy, scaling lineups.
Tusk enables aggressive Astral Imprisonment setups with Snowball saves or follow-up Walrus Punch. Tag Team amplifies Outworld Devourer’s right-click Arcane Orb damage, allowing early kills. Together they can dominate mid-skirmishes or dive towers with high burst.
...core items [7.39b]
A core Boots upgrade to improve your mobility and damage output with attack speed and stats. Also increases the damage of Sanitys Eclipse when kept on intelligence.
A core item that boosts your DPS with stats, attack speed, and damage ticks to burst down enemy heroes with Arcane Orb and Sanitys Eclipse. Your Arcane Orb projectiles move more quickly and the attack speed works well with it being 0 cd. The true strike also helps against evasion on enemy heroes.
A core mobility item that allows you to engage and disengage from fights. Also increases your attack range as Outworld Destroyer has short built in attack range. The active from the Hurricane Pike will allow you to pop it and dealing an incredible amount of damage from extremely long range.
A core item to avoid most disables on the enemy team and hit freely in fights as you will often find yourself being targeted due to your high damage output.
A core mobility item that lets you gank and initiate on enemies and set them up for a kill. Most importantly, Blink Dagger will fully go off cooldown within the Astral Imprisonment duration which will allow you to use it immediately after you have used it on yourself or an ally.

Arcane Orb does Pure damage and is OD's main damage source, which does not get mitigated by Fate's Edict's Magic Resistance. Astral Imprisonment can be used to dodge Fortune's End and perserve any vital buffs or debuffs on the target.
Berserker's Call bonus armor doesn't block Arcane Orb's pure damage.
Astral Imprisonment can be used to prevent an ally or Outworld Destroyer himself from an Axe initiation.
Axe's low mana means he's susceptible to a powerful Sanity's Eclipse.
Outworld Destroyer can save an ally hero caught by Duel with Astral Imprisonment, and he can inflict heavy damage on Legion Commander with Arcane Orb to aid his ally. However, if he gets caught, he is unlikely to survive the duel, due to his lack of durability.
Outworld Destroyer's pure damage from Arcane Orb can go through Cold Embrace.
Outworld Destroyer can negate the healing from Cold Embrace using Astral Imprisonment, and steal mana while doing so.
Outworld Destroyer's damage during Winter's Curse is reduced due to Arcane Orb being unable to target allies.
Timbersaw stacks reactive armor based on physical hits, but Outworld Devourer deals pure damage from Arcane Orb. Astral Imprisonment removes Timbersaw from fights or sets up a perfect Sanity's Eclipse when his INT is low. Outworld Devourer shreds through his durability without needing physical scaling.
Outworld Devourer can instantly delete Ancient Apparition due to his poor mobility and low HP. Astral Imprisonment protects allies from Ice Blast combo and disrupts Ancient Apparition’s positioning. Ancient Apparition has no escape or counterplay once Outworld Devourer gets a Black King Bar.
Abaddon relies on Borrowed Time, but Astral Imprisonment removes him during key moments, wasting his ultimate. Outworld Devourer can outlast his sustain and burn him down with pure damage. Abaddon can’t dispel Astral Imprisonment or Sanity’s Eclipse impact.
Outworld Devourer can Astral Imprisonment allies or enemies to buy time through Guardian Angel and prevent heals from Purification. Omniknight is a slow hero, easy for Outworld Devourer to kite and burst down. Once Black King Bar is up, Outworld Devourer ignores Omniknight’s defensive buffs and nukes the backline.
Astral Imprisonment dodges Berserker’s Call and Culling Blade, making it hard for Axe to execute. Outworld Devourer can kite Axe easily with Force Staff and destroy him with Arcane Orb before he can burst. Sanity’s Eclipse punishes Axe’s low INT pool harshly.
Troll Warlord is hard countered by Astral Imprisonment during Battle Trance, rendering his ultimate useless. Outworld Devourer’s pure damage ignores Troll Warlord’s armor and scaling, deleting him in teamfights. Troll Warlord can’t close the distance if Outworld Devourer plays behind his frontline.
Outworld Devourer’s Astral Imprisonment saves allies from Pounce or Diffusal Blade. Slark can’t burst Outworld Devourer through Astral or Black King Bar, and loses mana over long fights. Sanity’s Eclipse punishes his low mana and intelligence pool, making it lethal.
Tidehunter's tankiness is ineffective against Outworld Devourer’s scaling pure damage.
Outworld Devourer can Astral Imprisonment Tidehunter to dodge Ravage or isolate him from fights. Tidehunter’s big cooldown ultimate gives Outworld Devourer time to farm and scale.

Refraction blocks most of the damage dealt with Arcane Orb and Sanity's Eclipse if used correctly, and is difficult for Outworld Destroyer to deal with.
If Astral Imprisonment is on cooldown, then an Outworld Destroyer slowed by Psionic Trap is an easy kill for Templar Assassin, especially during the laning stage.
As Outworld Destroyer has short cast ranges, a short attack range, and no gap-closing abilities, Sniper can kite and harass Outworld Destroyer in lane with his long range and zone him out in fights. The continuous area damage from Shrapnel also prevents Astral-Blink escapes.
However, in the late game, Outworld Destroyer's massive damage can overwhelm Sniper once he obtains Blink Dagger, Force Staff etc. to close the gap.
Outworld Destroyer's high intelligence makes him a good target for Mind Flare.
If timed correctly, Spiked Carapace will return the full damage from Sanity's Eclipse back to Outworld Destroyer. Even a reflected Arcane Orb can deal significant damage and make him vulnerable to a follow-up from Nyx Assassin.
Spiked Carapace is also the perfect tool against Astral Imprisonment: if used on Nyx, he can reflect the damage back as he comes out of the prison by casting the ability while imprisoned.
Arc Warden’s clone creates map pressure Outworld Devourer can’t match, and his magic damage bypasses Astral Imprisonment. Spark Wraiths and Magnetic Field make Outworld Devourer miss attacks and waste time, while Tempest Double can bait Sanity’s Eclipse.
Outworld Devourer has poor wave clear, making it hard to respond to constant split pushing.
Broodmother’s Spiderlings overwhelm Outworld Devourer in lane, and Astral Imprisonment is ineffective against swarm units. She takes over the map and forces Outworld Devourer to fight on her terms. Broodmother snowballs faster than Outworld Devourer can scale and dodges teamfights where he shines.
The Spirit Bear soaks Astral Imprisonment or Sanity’s Eclipse, minimizing Outworld Devourer's damage impact. Lone Druid pushes lanes quickly and pressures towers before Outworld Devourer comes online. Outworld Devourer lacks the control or burst to stop the bear from shredding him in fights.
Familiars are immune to Astral Imprisonment and take very little magic damage, neutering Outworld Devourer’s core strength. Visage snowballs with push and team presence Outworld Devourer can’t match. His Gravekeeper’s Cloak makes him resistant to burst, and Outworld Devourer struggles to break it fast.
Outworld Devourer is ineffective against Reincarnation he blows cooldowns just to get through the first life. Sanity’s Eclipse has reduced value due to Wraith King’s high HP and low mana cost skills. In fights, Outworld Devourer wastes time dealing with skeleton summons and tanky targets.
Once Brewmaster splits, Outworld Devourer's abilities are nearly useless Astral Imprisonment can’t stop multiple Brewlings. Cyclone completely removes Outworld Devourer from fights, and he can’t deal with the micro. Brewmaster’s utility and disruption counter Outworld Devourer’s need for stationary, uninterrupted casting.
Silencer’s Global Silence prevents Outworld Devourer from casting Astral Imprisonment defensively, completely ruining his utility. Arcane Curse punishes Outworld Devourer's spell-dependent nature. In lane and fights, Silencer shuts down Outworld Devourer's impact before he can react.
