Undying is usually a good frontline meat shield that stands infront of ranged carries. They synergize well together.

Undying is usually a good frontline meat shield that stands infront of ranged carries. You can also heal Morphling back to full HP. They synergize well together.

Phoenix and Undying dominate teamfights with area control — Tombstone and Supernova force enemies to choose between two dangerous objectives. Phoenix’s Fire Spirits reduce attack speed, making it harder to kill Tombstone. Both heroes scale well in chaotic fights and provide excellent sustain and zoning.

Venomancer’s slows and damage-over-time amplify Tombstone value, making it easier for zombies to connect. The combo creates a permanent slow and decay zone that is hard to escape. Both heroes thrive in long, grinding fights and zone enemies from objectives.

Pugna’s Nether Ward and Life Drain make it dangerous to burst Undying or his allies.

Decrepify protects Tombstone or Undying while zombies swarm. They synergize in pushing and constant teamfight harassment with little cooldown reliance.

Dazzle keeps Undying alive with Shallow Grave during his frontline dives. Poison Touch slows and zones enemies, locking them near the Tombstone. Their early lane pressure is oppressive and they scale well into midgame skirmishes.

Ink Swell on Undying guarantees a strong initiation with AoE lockdown as he charges in.

Soulbind + Decay makes it easy to damage multiple targets with every cast. Their ultimates synergize in teamfights, forcing enemies to disengage or die.

Earth Spirit provides mobility and crowd control while Undying soaks damage. Rolling Boulder into Decay and Tombstone combos devastate grouped enemies. Their fast skirmish playstyle punishes greedy lanes or low-damage drafts.

Treant’s Leech Seed and Living Armor make Undying nearly unkillable early on. Overgrowth traps enemies around Tombstone, ensuring maximum zombie impact. They combine strong healing, tankiness, and excellent teamfight lockdown.

Magnus’s Reverse Polarity can clump enemies, setting up perfect Tombstone fights. Empower also helps Undying farm faster, which is usually a weakness. Together they offer teamfight initiation and strong midgame power spikes.

...core items [7.39b]

A core Boots upgrade to have some much needed mana sustain to spam Decay for fighting and farming. Can be upgraded to Guardian Greaves later in the game.

A situational item that gives you a save for yourself or an ally with Tombstone. Works well against single target initiations such as Duel.

An incredible pick up for Undying to become extremely tanky with HP pool through Decay while making enemy heroes much weaker. Has great synergy with Flesh Golem to do massive right click damage in teamfights.

A core item that gives you some much needed armor and reduces healing in an AoE around you. Works well against illusions and summons along with your AoE spells.

A core item that helps with mana sustain to spam Decay for fighting and farming. Also makes you tanky with armor and HP pool.

A core item that uses your high HP pool to reflect damage back to enemy heroes. When you choose to build Blade Mail, get it as your first major item and rush Eternal Shroud and Aghanim's Scepter afterwards to make it more effective.

Undying's Decay is a dangerous ability against Bristleback, as it makes him more vulnerable and reduces his tankiness.

Undying's Tombstone together with Flesh Golem can slow Bristleback down significantly.

Undying can use Decay not only to reduce Sven's maximum health, but also to reduce the damage he can deal with his ultimate.

Zombies spawned by Tombstone together with Flesh Golem slow Sven down significantly. Landing Sven's powerful but somewhat slow right-click on Tombstone would be a waste.

Undying's Decay spam disrupts Leshrac's laning and reduces his early effectiveness. Tombstone slows Leshrac’s mobility and punishes his low armor pool. Leshrac’s sustained presence in fights feeds into Undying's strengths.

Zombies slow WK and can burn his ultimate in early fights. Tombstone is very effective in long teamfights where he revives, forcing enemies to overcommit. Undying can stall and kite until Wraith King’s second life is wasted.

Undying’s Tombstone and Decay crush Chen’s summoned army, neutralizing his push.

His teamfighting power completely outscales Chen’s healing utility early on. Chen’s creeps feed zombies and help Undying build momentum.

Abaddon struggles against multi-target harassment from zombies and Decay. He can’t dispel decay, and often gets forced into early Borrowed Time. Undying is also not very affected by Aphotic Shield or Mist Coil.

Primal Beast wants to charge into clustered enemies, but Tombstone and zombies punish overcommits. Decay ruins his Strength-based scaling and slows his burst down. Undying can sustain and bait out Primal Beast's cooldowns.

Oracle’s False Promise is wasted against zombie pressure and Decay spam, which prolongs fights. He is extremely squishy and gets deleted instantly if caught near Tombstone.

Undying thrives in the same midgame timings Oracle struggles to survive.

Undying’s high HP decay stacks reduce Centaur’s effectiveness and delay his blink timing.

Tombstone fights disable Centaur's ability to freely initiate or disengage. Undying sustains through Retaliate poke damage.

Cold Embrace clumps enemies, allowing zombies and Decay to stack effectively. Undying does not rely on right-clicks, so Winter’s saves are less useful. Tombstone is great in drawn-out fights where Wyvern normally thrives.

Ursas Overpower is a great counter for killing the tombstone. Fury Swipes also counters the tanky profile Undying has.

Lina's attack range and Fiery Soul are an incredible counter to Tombstone.

Lil' Shredder destroys Tombstone quickly from a safe range. Her high magic burst punishes Undying's low mobility and poor scaling. She also zones Undying out of teamfights and punishes his early grouping.

Jakiro attacks twice so he can easily destroy tombstone. Ice Path and Dual Breath interrupt Tombstone fights and slow Undying’s early aggression. His long-range spell makes Undying’s push ineffective.

Zombies barely affect Medusa due to her Split Shot and high effective mana pool.

Stone Gaze disables Undying and forces him out of position if he commits early. She simply outscales and ignores his impact in long fights.

Luna’s fast right-clicks and bouncing Glaives kill Tombstone instantly, even from afar.

Her Eclipse punishes Undying's low magic resistance and clustered teamfights. She’s fast, farm-heavy, and doesn’t care about his decay stacking.

Gyrocopter clears zombies with Flak Cannon, and can kill Tombstone from long range.

His AoE magic damage punishes early group fights, where Undying usually shines.

Once he gets BKB, Undying can't threaten him at all.

Meepo’s multi hits kills Tombstone and zombies instantly. He can ignore Decay due to sheer numbers and overwhelm Undying with fast tempo. Undying has no answer to Meepo’s early snowball and control.

 undefined

Undying is gold-starved, and Bounty thrives by abusing him with Track for snowball gold.

Bounty can kite and harass Undying, and pick off backline supports when Tombstone is down. He’s elusive and very hard for Undying to lock down.

MK can easily kill Tombstone from trees or inside his ultimate. Zombies don’t stop Monkey King’s Jingu stacks or ult, and his mobility outmaneuvers Undying. In lane, MK can out-trade Decay with lifesteal and higher burst.
